I’m part of Leuchtfeuer’s Mautic team, and thus work with Mautic every day: strategy and consulting, training teams, and scoping integrations with other systems. My background is in marketing, but over the years I’ve built up a solid technical understanding that helps me understand both sides and translate between them. I’m especially interested in marketing automation that’s technically sound and genuinely useful for marketers, not just one or the other.

Panel: Keeping Mautic Strong for the Future: What Makes Open Source Last?

Open source has never been more important, yet the foundations that make open source projects thrive are under pressure.
AI is changing the landscape, with new opportunities but also new challenges. Regulations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act are adding to the workload. Cultural changes and economic cycles affect funding and corporate participation as well as contributions from individuals.
So how can we make open source - and Mautic - last?
This panel discusses the specific situation that Mautic is in, but also ponders the critical factors behind successful, resilient open source projects (even if far outside the mainstream), and how contribution and financial support can be developed for the future.
The goal is not to predict the future of open source, but to explore how we can help shape it :)

Talk

Privacy focused Marketing Automation with Mautic - Already good and getting even better

One of Mautic's biggest advantages compared to other marketing automation tools is its high conformity with the GDPR and other privacy standards. As open-source software that can be self-hosted, Mautic enables users to keep true sovereignty over their data and ensure that all relevant laws are adhered to.

In this talk, we will start by recapping reasons for following current privacy laws, especially the GDPR, as well as big-picture motivations for more privacy and data sovereignty.

Afterwards we will jump into Mautic itself, giving an overview of recent development, plugins and best practices for increasing Mautic's privacy standards, including but not limited to:

  • The recent split of Mautic's core functionalities from its tracking,
  • campaign actions for anonymizing user data,
  • sending emails with european ESPs,
  • compliantly integrating Mautic with other tools via n8n
  • and a new plugin for handling Double Opt-In.

But even though Mautic already does pretty well, it still contains some typical pitfalls with regard to privacy. We will not only point them out, but also provide best practices and fixes to avoid them.

Besides these small traps, there is still room for improvement. That's what the current Privacy Initiative is focussing on: Making sure Mautic becomes even more privacy focused in the future. We will go over some of the initiative's goals in detail, hopefully gathering more support for this important cause.
